MILES FOR MEALS

Walk, Run, Bike, Swim, or Climb to Build Food Security in Hancock County!

All year long, food security organizations in Hancock County work tirelessly to make sure Mainers have enough food on the table. This April, lace up your running shoes or hiking boots, and hit the pavement — or the trails, lake, or swimming pool — and show our community of food providers we've got their back, too.

This year, the Hancock County Food Drive invites you to join us for a monthlong movement challenge. Set a goal, encourage your friends to join your team, compete for great prizes, and fundraise for our community's food pantries, free meal sites, and school backpack programs.

When you sign up, you can create or join a fundraiser, which you can then share with family, friends, colleagues, and neighbors. The people you share it with may pledge a donation for every mile you earn, or they can make a flat donation. Fun local prizes will be awarded to the individuals and teams who log the most miles and raise the most funds!

100% of the funds raised will go toward helping the Food Drive raise $50,000 (100,000 meals!) this April.

We'RE Working With the Best Local Businesses to Offer Prizes!

HOW IT WORKS

REGISTRATION

Registration fees go toward our fundraising goal. If the cost is prohibitive, please contact us and we will provide you with a free or reduced registration code!

  • Individuals: $10 for adults, $4 for youth

  • Teams: Teams of 5 or more pay $5 each! When signing up, the first four registrants will pay $10 each, but will receive a $5 refund when the fifth member joins.

  • Registrants have the option of creating a fundraiser. This is encouraged! Doing so will make it easier for your friends and family to donate to the Food Drive, and it will make you eligible for one of our prizes.

  • Registrants have the option of making a donation when signing up. If you wish to surpass the donation option, just click "continue" at the bottom of the page.

FUNDRAISING

  • We encourage you to create or join a fundraiser when signing up, which you can then share with family, friends, colleagues, and neighbors. The people you share it with may pledge a donation for every mile you earn, or they can make a flat donation.

  • To set up a fundraiser on your own, or to start a team fundraiser, select “Become a Fundraiser”.

  • To join an existing fundraiser, search for your team fundraiser when you register.

LOGGING YOUR MILES

  • Start logging your miles on Monday, April 1st!

  • Update your Run Sign Up account on a daily basis with every intentional mile (i.e. not the total number of steps you take during the day, such as when you're walking around the house) that you complete between 4/1/2024 - 4/30/2024.

  • You can walk, run, hike, bike, rock climb, or swim. You do not need to do all of the above! We are simply increasing the opportunities for engagement so that more people can participate! You can walk every day, or you can run one day and bike the next. You are allowed to mix it up as much or as little as you’d like to.

  • Biking a mile is easier for many people than running a mile, and swimming a mile is even harder! To make counting fair across activity types, use the following conversions when recording miles on your activity log:

  • Make sure to log all of your miles online by April 30, 2024

WIN FUN PRIZES

  • We are partnering with our favorite local businesses to offer prizes to the individuals and teams that raise the most funds and log the most miles. See below for more details!

2.png
  • 2 biking miles = 1 running/walking mile

  • 1/4 swimming mile = 1 running/walking mile

  • 25 yards climbed (AKA, 5 laps of a bouldering wall, or 2 laps of a top rope/lead wall) = 1 running/walking mile

WHO DOES THIS EVENT SUPPORT?

100% of the funds raised will be divided among 17 food assistance programs in Hancock County.
